Volunteer Income Tax Assistance: The Frontera Nogales VITA and Asset Building Coalition opened the Nogales site on Tuesday, January 25 at Literacy Volunteers, 125 E Madison in downtown Nogales.   Our goal is to surpass last year’s results of 464 returns.  The VITA site is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 PM to 8 PM and certain Saturdays through April 18.

This year, NCD has a core of 16 volunteers including 10 tax preparers who have received over 18 hours of IRS training.  These individuals freely give their time to help us with this very important project and we wish to extend our sincere gratitude for their dedication and efforts.

Nogales Housing Rehabilitation Program
: Through a grant funded by Housing and Urban Development (HUD), NCD will be launching a neighborhood revitalization program that involves community outreach, homeownership education, job training and the rehabilitation of five homes. NCD has chosen to target our rehabilitation efforts in the downtown neighborhood located between Crawford Street and Noon Street.

The Food Enterprise Project: This program is funded by a grant from USDA Rural Development and is designed to capitalize on existing regional food expertise by stimulating the development of local food related micro-businesses. The project is designed to promote the purchase of locally grown, healthy foods.  NCD will work with local farmer’s market organizations throughout the county to help them develop business, technical and organizational expertise.
